OUR STORY

Our First Date

When they were planning their first date, Jacob suggested just meeting for drinks. Britt thought that wasn’t long enough to get to know someone, and requested they meet over lunch. As they planned the date out over text, Jacob decided maybe lunch wasn’t long enough and asked Britt if they should make it a beach day after their lunch. They both agreed they’d see how a Sunday lunch went and take it from there.

Their first date was to be on the other side of a draw bridge at Casey Key Fish House. Jacob got there first, and Britt was stuck as the bridge went up. When the bridge went down, Jacob got excited and went to look for Britt in the parking lot. Soon after his search started, Britt received a text from Jacob asking if she was wearing red. Britt replied no, I’m in white (a foreshadowing?), and I’m walking up. Over lunch, Britt learns Jacob was relieved the person in red, older, wasn’t her. For a second, he thought he had been catfished.

When lunch was over, Jacob insisted the date continue. They hit it off so well, Britt didn’t want the date to end either. They took Jacob’s Jeep down Casey Key to Nokomis Beach. It was Britt’s first time in a ride without doors, and she absolutely loved it. When they got to the beach, they were the only ones dressed for a first date, but they didn’t care they just sat down in the middle of it all, talking and laughing. Later, Jacob asked Britt if she wanted to walk up the beach. As they strolled, they both reached for each other’s hands, paused and smiled for a moment, and continued on up the beach.

Time passed quickly, and it was after 6 PM when they noticed a storm rolling in. They giggled admitting it was both their longest first date and drove back to Britt’s car. When it came time to say goodbye, they both professed how much they enjoyed each other. They both knew it went against all dating rules, but they weren’t going to play it cool. They made plans to have dinner the next day.

Monday evening, their second date was at the Crow’s Nest, and again they both hit it off with endless talking and laughter. After the waitress came back the third time to get their order, though neither one of them had discussed food, they ordered the same dish. A phenomenon that has happened many times since. After an amazing dinner, they sat on the dock talking feet away from someone’s boat. They both agreed it was a connection that they had never felt before. As the story goes, they have been inseparable ever since. They met their Person and both knew it.

The Proposal

At the end of March, Jacob and Britt went on a cruise. While they jet-skied through Key West, explored the streets Nassau searching for some conch salad, and walked the beaches of Half Moon Cay together, they found their new favorite way to vacation. How can you beat a new beautiful beach every day and delicious food by night?

On the drive home from the cruise, Jacob decided they would stop at Nokomis Beach since they had the whole day. As they held hands and walked the beach as they did on their first date, Jacob got down on one knee and asked Britt to marry him. She said YES! Wiping away the first happy tears she ever cried. She told him she loved him the most.

They retraced their drive up Casey Key, and celebrated at Casey Key Fish House, reliving their very first date, now engaged.
